Jennifer has been a movement educator and Pilates teacher since 1997. After falling in love with the intelligent flow of the Pilates method, she became intrigued by the many approaches to the work and set out on a quest to study with as many master teachers as possible in order to explore what she calls the “Pilates puzzle.” These teachers, along with a diverse constellation of movement innovators and anatomists, continue to influence her work and contribute to the rich web of body-mind experience she brings to her teaching.
Alongside her deep dive into Pilates, Jennifer began practicing the ancient movement art of Qigong in conjunction with training in acupressure, medicinal herbalism, and Chinese medicine. While Qigong initially served as a personal self-care practice, she went on to pursue formal training so she could share this invaluable work with her students.
Of all her revered teachers, Jennifer’s most profound lessons have come from living with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. The resilience and perspective derived from her cancer experience infuse her work with deep gratitude for the body and an illuminated understanding of vitality.
With a strong background in musculoskeletal and fascial anatomy, along with Eastern body-mind modalities, Jennifer views each individual body through a holistic lens. She believes the spirit of any movement system lies in understanding the person rather than simply teaching the exercise.
In addition to her Pilates certification through the National Pilates Certification Program, Jennifer is certified in both White Tiger Qigong and Mantak Chia’s Universal Healing Tao. She is also a CETI-certified Cancer Exercise Specialist and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biocultural Anthropology, with a focus on human evolution and the social, cultural, and economic determinants of health.
Jennifer has often been asked why she chose to pursue anthropology when her professional background has been rooted in anatomy and complementary medicine. She believes that in order to pioneer the leading edge of optimal well-being, we must investigate the full spectrum of human perspectives.
